The Oakes are lucky to have a treasury of stories passed down to us from our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles; but much of this risks getting lost, incorrectly copied, or left hidden in a trunk in someone's attic. I created this web site to make this information known to us, our children and our grandchildren.
The site was initially made in WordPress and took the form of a blog. I've moved off of Wordpress since it was too slow, but I'm leaving it in blog form. I'll post on the Oakes Folks Facebook group when there are updates. I'm trying to limit this to unearthed sources and questions about them.
Ancestry.com is another resource. Much of this stuff may end up there over time so it's available to other, more distant, branches of the family.
If you have any material to contribute to the site please make comments on my Facebook posts and I'll incorporate them into this site if it makes sense. Please feel free to use comments to correct our historical record. Mistakes are made and gaps exist.
I won't post anything too personal here. This is more public than our Facebook group.
